A splendid performance both from a pianistic and from a musical standpoint, justly acclaimed with great enthusiasmAACHEN. The young Venetian Pietro De Maria not only played the Concerto by Schumann with absolute authority – this is natural enough nowadays – but also with a poetic participation which restored the impassioned sound to the masterpiece. This was above all true of the first movement, whose external Sonata form was transformed, as it should be, into free fantasia structures. A palette of stupendously variegated sounds helped him no less than a director who followed him superbly, although De Maria did not make it easy.
